Design and care

Landscape design and care in Jackson Hole

A landscape here has to earn its place. Short summers, hard winters and thin soil mean the plants that thrive are a specific list, and the ones that do not become next spring replacement bill.

What we do

Design and plant selection

Bed layout and species chosen for how they read across all four seasons here, not just July.

Installation

Planting, bed prep and grading done so what goes in has a chance of still being there in five years.

Season long care

Spring cleanup, bed maintenance, pruning and mulch. The steady attention that keeps a designed landscape from sliding back to rough.

Built for this valley

01

Adapted species

Native and proven plants that handle the altitude, the cold and the short season.

02

Water conscious

Planting designed to work with Teton County restrictions rather than fight them.

03

Maintained by us

Most of what we plant, we go on to look after, so bed shapes stay maintainable.

Connected to everything else

Design decisions drive the rest of the property. We lay out irrigation for the planting going in, keep the lawn and beds in balance, and where the plan calls for hardscape we build it to survive the freeze and thaw.

Designed for this climate, not a catalog.

Plant selection is where most landscapes in this valley go wrong. Something that thrives four hours south will not survive a winter here, and the failure does not show up until the second or third spring, long after the install crew has gone.

Design, installation and the season-long care afterward are handled by the same company on purpose. The people who chose the plants are the people who have to keep them alive.

Through the year

How the season runs

First

Design

Working out what the site can actually support: sun, wind exposure, drainage, snow load and where the plow has to go in January.

Then

Installation

Beds, plantings and grounds put in with the growing season in mind, because there is a limited window here to get roots established before frost.

After

Season-long care

Beds maintained through the year rather than handed off. Establishment is the part that decides whether an install lasts.

Ongoing

Adjustment

Landscapes change. What worked in the third season is not always what works in the eighth, and plantings get adjusted as they mature.

Common questions

Questions we get asked

What grows well in Jackson Hole?

Plants suited to a short season, cold winters, thin soil and real wind exposure. The specific answer depends on the site, because a sheltered south-facing bed and an exposed north side of the same property are effectively two different climates.

When is the best time to install?

The window is set by frost on both ends. Getting roots established before the ground closes up matters more than the calendar date.

Do you also build the hardscape?

Yes. Landscape construction covers patios, walls, grading and hardscape, and it is generally better to plan the planting and the built work together than to retrofit one around the other.

What areas do you serve?

We work throughout Jackson, Wilson, Teton Village and the surrounding Teton County valley. Call (307) 733-1588 to confirm your property.
